Our Guide to Lehigh Valley Winter Fun

December 12, 2024

As Lehigh Valley’s 3rd generation, family-owned builder, we often talk about how much we love this area. The Lehigh Valley is a great place to live all year long, and there are great things to do no matter the season. In winter, the Lehigh Valley comes alive as a premier destination for skiers, snow tubers, snowboarders, ice skating, and lots of other fun cold weather activities!

Ready to get out there and have some winter fun? Here’s our guide to the best skiing, tubing, snowboarding, ice skating, and more in the Lehigh Valley and beyond:

Bear Creek Mountain Resort, Macungie

For convenience to the Lehigh Valley, you can’t beat Bear Creek Mountain Resort which is located in Macungie (just a short drive from 3 of our communities:  The Fields at Twin Run, The Fields at Brookside, and The Fields at Indian Creek).

Bear Creek focuses on family-friendly fun and is great for skiers and snowboarders of various skill levels (including dedicated beginner slopes). They offer 23 trails with 7 lifts, plus a fun tubing park with multiple lanes and a convenient lift system.

They offer some luxurious amenities including a beautiful lodge with a spa, restaurants, and easy ski-in/ski-out access.

Blue Mountain Resort, Palmerton

If you’re looking for a bit more variety and a little more challenge, head to Blue Mountain Resort. They boast the highest vertical in Pennsylvania (1,082 feet) and have 40 trails catering to all skill levels (171 acres of skiable terrain).

Blue Mountain features one of the largest snow tubing parks in the country with up to 46 lanes. They have terrain parks for snowboarders, night skiing, and lessons for beginners. You can enjoy several eateries including the popular Slopeside Pub and Grill which boasts great food and amazing views.

Camelback Resort, Tannersville

To switch things up a bit, try Camelback Resort. It’s considered the queen of the Pocono ski areas and is among the very best in the entire state. It features a manageable 800-foot vertical drop, 39 trails, 16 lifts, and award-winning learning programs.

Camelback features a tubing park, LED light show, and a 453-room lodge that includes an indoor waterpark with your stay! The Pocono Premium Outlets are nearby, so you can do some shopping after you finish up on the slopes!

Jack Frost/Big Boulder, White Haven

A little over an hour North of the Lehigh Valley, you’ll find two sister ski areas that are just 5 miles apart: Jack Frost and Big Boulder. Jack Frost is the larger resort and is more of a traditional ski area with trails for all ski levels. Big Boulder is geared more to snowboarders.

The two resorts offer a wide variety of amenities including a vast array of dining options from convenient cafes to fine dining.

Jacobsburg State Park, Nazareth

If you’re looking for cross-country skiing and/or snowshoeing, head to Jacobsburg State Park. They have 19 miles of trails available for hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. Since hunting is permitted in some areas, the park recommends visitors wear blaze orange during hunting season.

Ready for some ice skating? The Lehigh Valley has you covered:

Steel Stacks, Bethlehem

On the South Side of Bethlehem you have two ice skating options right down the street from each other. First is the Steel Ice Center, which is the Lehigh Valley’s premier ice skating rink. They are open year-round and have learning programs for figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating, and recreational skating. They also offer daily public skating on their large rinks. You can grab a drink and some eats at The Steel Pub when you finish skating.

Down the street is the Ice Rink at SteelStacks™, which is an outdoor rink that’s open from November to January. They offer a variety of themed nights, so almost every night is a party on the ice. Go skating and then visit Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem during the holiday season or catch a show inside the adjacent ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks.

Easton Winter Village, Easton

Located in downtown Easton, the Easton Winter Village offers free skating for residents of the 18042 ZIP code. The surface is synthetic, not real ice, but the fun is real (and you don’t have to worry if the weather warms up a little). After skating you can visit the 40+ vendors in Centre Square for holiday shopping and tasty treats.

And that’s just the start of the winter fun! The Lehigh Valley has all kinds of winter activities including festivals, holiday events, local sledding and more. This area has livability and beauty, no matter the season, which is why we at Kay Builders love to live and work here. Ready to build your dream home in the Lehigh Valley?
