The Lehigh Valley is located in Eastern Pennsylvania in Lehigh and Northampton Counties, conveniently nestled between Philadelphia and New York City. It is Pennsylvania’s 3rd most populous area, behind only the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metropolitan areas.
The biggest city in the Lehigh Valley is Allentown, but the area also includes the cities of Bethlehem and Easton as well as many smaller towns like Emmaus and Macungie.
Zillow recently released their list of the top 10 most popular real estate markets in the United States, and our very own Allentown is ranked 6th! This comes on the heels of Realtor.com naming nearby Macungie, Pennsylvania the 10th hottest real estate ZIP code in the entire country.
We wanted to take a closer look at these rankings, and understand just what makes the Lehigh Valley such a desirable place to live.
Location… Location… Location!
The Lehigh Valley’s location gives it some big advantages right from the start. First, the northeastern United States is popular, containing 6 of the country’s top 10 most desirable real estate markets.
The lists are full of small towns and communities that are located beyond the immediate suburbs of a major metropolitan area but are still technically within commuting distance. These areas offer a comfortable balance of affordable living, small-town charm, open spaces, and lots of amenities.
The Lehigh Valley is within commuting distance of both New York City and Philadelphia. Since many employers are embracing hybrid work schedules these days, this makes the Lehigh Valley much more desirable now that employees might not have to make that commute every day.

The Lehigh Valley is home to very popular minor-league sports franchises including the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) who play at the beautiful Coca-Cola Park, and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers) who play in the cutting-edge PPL Center.
